The Little Melbourne Kitchen

Is it Tuesday already?  Surely not!  Winter has descended and I think I spent most of the past weekend eating.  It's been a while since I caught up with my besties - they've been popping out babies, moving houses and going back to work so it was great to have brunch with them at the aptly named Friends of Mine cafe in Richmond on Saturday.  It was jam packed inside and my BFF Jules somehow always manages to score a park outside the front as well as an inside table (she got there half an hour before us) where there was enough space to park not one, but two prams and strollers.  A little different from the brunches of past when we were all single ladies - we spent most of the morning manhandling babies and wrangling errant toddlers.  The food and coffee were excellent - I had the smashed avocado with poached eggs and left an empty plate.

Mr Rosanna and I also had a very impromptu yum cha with the boys post swimming class on Sunday morning at Golden Dragon Palace in Lower Templestowe.  It was the perfect thing to do after exercise mid-morning on a winter's day.  We rang straight after swimming had ended and they managed to squeeze us in for an hour between 11.30am and 12.30pm which was fine when you're in and out with young kids.  As for the boys, I think they'd died and gone to food heaven macking out on fried calamari, spring rolls and crispy skin pork (the naughty stuff) plus an assortment of steamed dim sum and noodles topped off with egg (custard) tarts.  It doesn't get any better than that people!  And you get very sumptuous surroundings at normal yum cha prices.  Even more of a surprise for a nondescript building (from the outside) located next to McDonald's.

Speaking of food, Lady Bower Kitchen in Reservoir will be holding a pop up cafe every Saturday at the Winter Artisans Markets at the Northcote Town Hall over the next four Saturdays.  You can book their full afternoon tea on 9469 5851 or visit ladybower.com.au  I've also been watching The Little Paris Kitchen on SBS most Thursday nights since winter started and think in my next life, I'd like to be fashion PR turned Cordon Bleu chef, food writer and TV presenter Rachel Khoo living and working in Paris.  Aahh!
